About the Grow GatHERing


The Grow GatHERing is an event that forms a vital part of our comprehensive action plan, meticulously crafted to tackle the critical issues of substance use, mental health, and resilience in our youth. But wait, it gets even better! Not only is this event designed to address these pressing concerns, but it also promises an unforgettable experience filled with fun, excitement, and engagement. We've carefully curated the content and activities to ensure they have a blast while gaining essential life skills.


At the Grow GatHERing, we're providing participants with a gateway to bolstering their self-esteem, enhancing their self-efficacy, fostering emotional self-regulation, and nurturing the importance of supportive relationships and social connectedness.


Imagine the immense impact this transformative experience can have on your child's future. It's not just about a single event; it's about equipping them with the tools and resources necessary to navigate the challenges of adolescence successfully. 






Saturday, September 9th, 2023 

9:30 am-3 pm 

(Check in opens at 9)

LEAD Innovation Center  7201 N Line Creek Pkwy, Kansas City, MO 64151 


7th or 8th grade female students in the 23-24 school year are invited to attend.  


While the event is intended to reach youth in the Park Hill area, students from other areas can also register.

Schedule of the day!

 Event Schedule (Subject to change!):

9:00 am- Check In 


9:30am- Kick Off and keynote speaker - Latrese Kabuya 

 

Latrese Kabuya is a Mental Health Advocate, and Television and Podcast Host whose work is driven by her passion to uplift and encourage women to Discover, Connect and Express the best version of themselves, the Real You!

Latrese is a recognized empowerment speaker, coach, and media personality. She is the Founder of Let's Get P.R.E.T.T.Y.™. and It's All About You™

Latrese hosts her own Internet YouTube/Podcast Series, “Insights with Latrese,” where she engages on various topics about "real life, real you, real good". She was a “Fill In” TV Host on a local NBC television show and is currently a TV Segment Contributor on a CBS affiliate as a mental health advocate.


10:30am- Choose Your Path Workshops

  • Choose 2 out of 5 workshops focused on learning more about who you are and plant a succulent, self defense, self empowerment, your brain, the high school transition (recommended for 8th grade participants)   


11:45am- Pizza and Free Time


12:30pm- Rotation Stations 

  • These sessions are 30 minutes long and everyone will be attending these!  These sessions focus on developing health coping mechanisms and self care, learning about how to use social media safely, and managing friendships in a healthy way! 


2:15 pm- Laugh and Launch: This session brings all of the participants together to  celebrate what we learned today and launch into the world empowered.


2:15pm- Parent/Guardian session

  •  Hey Parents/Guardians, you too deserve support as you navigate mental health and wellness with your children.  Join us for this engaging session from 2:15 to 3, where we'll spoil you with goodies and equip you with new language, knowledge and practical next steps to support your child(ren) as they grow! 


3:00pm: Dismissal

  • 91% agreed or strongly agreed they had fun! 
  • 93.7% of parents/guardians surveyed state they agree or strongly agree they would recommend this event to other parents/guardians in their circle. 
  • 100% of parents/guardians surveyed stated their student expressed to them they had a positive experience at the Grow GatHERing
